N.S.S. College, Pandalam

N.S.S. College, Pandalam is one of the premier institutions of higher education managed by NairService Society, a leading educational agency and a social organization. The founder of the N.S.S., Late Padmasree Mannathu Padmanabhan a great visionary and social reformer believed that education is the most effective means of social reforms. It was with this strong conviction that he established a number of educational institutions all over Kerala in order to liberate the members of his community from the retrogressive and decadent practices prevalent in the pre-independent Kerala. Pandalam, the legendary land of Lord Ayyappa was specially selected by the founder considering its geographical significance of accessibility, surrounded by a rural, agrarian community. The college is situated on the side of the MC road half a kilometer away from the Pandalam junction.

College of Engineering Adoor

CEA is a centre of academic excellence that provides undergraduate studies to about 1000 studentsin three disciplines.Admissions are carried out on the basis of the ranks obtained in the All Kerala CommonEntrance Examinations, conducted by the Controller of Entrance Examinations. The college is affiliated to Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) known internationally for its academic excellence. Christian College, Chengannur

The Christian College, Chengannur was founded by the late Rt. Rev. Dr. Mathews Mar Athanasius Episcopa of the Mar Thomas Syrian Church of Malabar in the year 1964. The college, started as a junior college with 3 batches of Pre-Degree classes rose to the Degree level in 1967 and offers at present DegreecoursesinMaths,Physics,Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, History, Economics and English Literature.The statue of first grade college was conferred in 1995 with the introduction of the Post Graduate course in Economics. The following year M.Sc. Physics also was started. The college also offers B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry and part-time career diploma courses in Computer Applications and Communicative English.

IHRD College Adoor

The College established in 1995 by the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD) - one of the spear heading agencies in the state’s technological education. The college library has a good collection of relevant books and periodicals.The Science and Environment Association (SEA), Sports Club, Arts Club and NSS Unit of the college are very active. Kendra Vidhyalayam Adoor

The Vidyalaya has registered consistent growth ever since its inception. Construction of own buildingfor the Vidyalaya started in 1998 and the building was taken over in march 2001. The results in Classes X and XII board examinations have been consistently good. The Vidyalaya started +2 Stream in Science in 2002. Due to the heavy demand for admission, Shift system was introduced in the Vidyalaya in 2004. Today the Vidyalaya runs two shifts - with classes up to XII in Science stream in Shift I and up to XII Commerce in Shift II. Further a Science stream was started in Shift II in 2007-08. Construction work of 9 units of Staff quarters, 9 additional Class rooms and a second Computer Lab. is in progress and is expected to be completed in March 2008.

History of Pandalam

Pandalam is considered to be very sacred for the South Indians as it is the birthplace of Lord Ayappa. Located near Sabrimala, it is actually named after the Pandalam Royal family. Take a tour to Pandalam and rediscover the temples and mythological legends of Kerala. It also has the famous Valiyakoikal Temple which is located on the banks of river Achenkovil.Pandalam is one among the fastest growing towns in , Kerala, India. It is considered as a holy town. Pandalam is also a well known educational and health care centre in central Travancore.Pandalam hosts a lot of educational institutions ranging from reputed schools to Post Graduate, Training, Ayurveda, Medical and Engineering Colleges.
Pandalam' is one among the fastest growing towns in Pathanamthitta, Kerala, India. It is a holy town, second only to Sabarimala. It is believed that Sree Ayyappa, the presiding deity of Sabarimala had his human sojourn here as the son of the Raja of Pandalam. Before proceeding to Sabarimala, pilgrims usually stop to worship the deity of Valiyakoikkal Temple near the Pandalam Palace. This temple is on the banks of river Achenkovil. Three days prior to the Makaravilaku festival, the sacred ornaments of Sree Ayyappa are taken in a procession from Pandalam to Sabarimala.
Other famous temples are the Mahadevar Temple, Kurampala Puthankavil Bhagavathi Temple, Thonnallur Pattupurakkavu Bhagavathi Temple and Kaipuzha Sree Krishna Swami Temple. The centuries old Kadakkad Juma Masjid, Thumpamon Orthodox Cathedral and Kurampala St Thomas Church give this pilgrim town, the glare and glory of a secular township.
This holy town is also a well known educational and health care centre in Kerala. Pandalam has a lot of educational institutions ranging from reputed schools to Post Graduate, Training, Ayurveda, Medical and Engineering Colleges.
It is believed that the Pandya kings of Tamil Nadu fled to Pandalam after losing a battle and settled here in the land they bought from Kaipuzha Thampan, a landlord. The princely state of Pandalam had extended up to Thodupuzha in Idukki district once. Pandalam had witnessed a rare piece of history when it was first converted to a municipality and later back to a gramapanchayat.

The centuries old ''Kurumthottayam'' market, (now known as the ''Pandalam market'') is one among the largest agricultural markets in Central Travancore. Situated in the heart of this township till late 1990s, this market was later shifted to a place on the Pandalam - Mavelikkara road. Right from agricultural produce (mainly cultivated in and around Pandalam and parts of adjoining panchayats) to fisheries, meat, rice and spices, this market is one among the nerve centres of the region.
